Darwin & Top End

The country's youngest scene, in the country's most surprising city. Tropical-fruit wine, sugar-cane spirits, and beer brewed for 35°C drinking weather.

Our Darwin crew is two locals who moved up from Brisbane in 2021 and convinced us to start running tours from the Top End. The scene is the youngest in our network — and growing fast.

We run two tours, both in the dry season (May through October). The wet season is too hot for daytime tasting, so we close the operation each November and reopen each April.

What’s worth coming for

Darwin Brewery Walk. Two breweries on foot in central Darwin, both founded post-2018, both leaning into tropical-friendly low-ABV pale ales designed for 35°C drinking weather. Plus a stop at a small mead and tropical-fruit-wine producer that doesn’t have a cellar door anywhere else in the country.

Top End Distillery & Sunset. A drive out to a small distillery on the Stuart Highway, a tasting flight of small-batch gin and rum, and a sunset at Mindil Beach. The most-photographed tour our network runs.

Why we close in the wet season

Darwin’s wet season (November–April) hits 35°C with 90% humidity. Daytime tasting rooms aren’t air-conditioned to that standard. Our local crew also takes the wet season off to do scuba dive trips in Indonesia, which seems fair.
